Job Description:

The Director of Security and Safety provides overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the organization’s 24/7 Security Department, which includes more than 70 officers (SORA-certified and armed) serving over 15 residential, community, and social service locations across areas of Newark, NJ. The Director is responsible for policy development, staff management, emergency preparedness, investigations, incident follow up and collaboration with external partners such as local law enforcement, emergency responders, and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Implement security policies, procedures, regulations, and rules to maintain a safe environment. rules, and ensures safe environment for residents, clients, employees, and visitors.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation of security staff.
  • Develop and oversee workplace safety, access control, visitor management and emergency response protocol.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, accidents, and employee related injuries. Prepare accurate documentation and corrective action recommendations.
  • Serve as NCC’s liaison to local law enforcement, emergency services and community safety agencies.
  • Partner with department leadership to develop safety protocols specific to their work locations.
  • Develop and manage the security department’s annual operating budget.
  • Oversee maintenance of security systems, surveillance equipment access controls and related technology.
  • Ensure cost-effective deployment of staff and resources across all NCC’s network

Experience and Skills:

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or related field, preferred.

 

Experience required

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in security, law enforcement, or public safety, including management of large teams.
  • Preferred experience overseeing security in residential housing, health care and in social service settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis management, incident command and investigations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work evening, weekends or holidays as needed to respond to incidents or emergencies
