Job Description:

The RN Relief Nursing Supervisor will be responsible in supervising the daily functioning of the residents care unit in accordance with the current Federal, State, and Local standards and regulations that govern the Facility; as directed by the Administrator and the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained. This position share dual accountability of clinical to the Unit Manager and supervisory to the Director of nursing/ADON.

  • Report all complaints, accidents and incidents observed during work shift to D.O.N
  • Direct daily function of nursing personnel in accordance with rules and regulation that govern long term care facilities
  • Organized, direct and supervise the function of all staff on the nursing unit.
  • Monitor nursing staff to ensure that each staff is performing his/her job duties.
  • Review all medical forms, reports, charting and evaluation to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate and/or coordinate with other department to ensure that the residents are receiving continuity in the total regime of care.
  • Exercise tact and judgment regarding confidential material
  • Assist in the resolution of resident/family concerns in a time and competent manner
  • Ensure there is adequate number of nursing personnel at all times; replaces call out as necessary and redirect staff as required by changing resident census and resident needs.
  • Coordinate and monitor the completion of reassessment; ensure that the MDS and care plan are reflective of a complete and accurate resident assessment.
  • Monitor the continuity of implementation of the resident’s care on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
  • Coordinate and participate in the ongoing revision of the residents care plan with the active participation of the resident/family.
  • Organize and participate in the review of physician orders and MAR’s/TAR’ on a monthly basis to ensure accurate continuation of orders.
  • Document integrated progress notes; any new evaluation or change in the residents’ condition and coordinate and participate in MDS evaluation required by significant change in condition.
  • Review documentation for accuracy and/or completeness
  • Review lab work and report any abnormal finding to the physician immediately; recommends to the physician individual resident needs for additional evaluation and follow-up as indicated by the resident’s condition or treatment.
  • Make regular rounds with physician and of the nursing unit; monitor and direct the provision of daily care.
  • Assist the D.O.N. in ensuring adequate staffing is maintained; redirect/redistributes staff as required by changing of residents’ census and needs.
  • Monitor and direct the distribution/organization of tasks amongst the staff of all shifts.
  • Perform professional services and or treatment (i.e. catherterization, suction, dressing changes, etc.) as directed by the interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Notify physician and resident’s family of any condition change or need for change in the plan of care.
  • Report (written) suspected abuse of resident to D.O.N and initiate preliminary investigation.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Train and monitor staff in the established handwashing techniques.
  • Provide training of orientation (new staff) and leadership of the essential principles of the nursing staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN or BS) from four year college, university, or an accredited school of nursing.
