Job Description:

Grant Writer

New Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey is one of the largest and most comprehensive community development organizations in the country; New Community’s success rests on its comprehensive approach to community development. It is active in housing, health care, education, job training, childcare and economic development.

NCC’s Grant Writer will conduct grant research based on the appropriate needs of the corporation. Will work with programs to conceptualize, design, write-up, and submit grant applications. Familiarize with the organizations, programs and client needs. Work closely with department directors and administration to integrate grants with agency programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform internal review of organization needs and assess feasibility of obtaining external funding for existing and new program initiatives and projects.
  • Implement all phases of grants development and management, to include budget requirements, forms, attachments, signatures, facilitating internal review, and submission. If funded, active participant in compliance; development of performance indicators, monitoring, and continuous quality improvement; reporting, and reapplications as warranted.
  • Conduct extensive research into appropriate grant opportunities. Grant seeking efforts should focus on foundations, local, county, state, and federal grants.
  • Match corporation mission and programmatic needs to grant funding sources
  • Prepare written summary of grant opportunities and coordinate and facilitate a grant deliberation meeting with program and administration.
  • Write, edit, revise and submit grants to secure financial support. Create, design, write and implement process and procedures related to grants implementation and management.
  • Develop processes to monitor and ensure adherence to all processes and procedures relating to submission of grants
  • Gather documentation and fulfill the necessary requirements of various funding bodies to formally seek funding on behalf of their agency.

 

 

Experience and Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism or Marketing or another relevant field.
  • Grant Professional Certified (GPC) Preferred.
  • Five years of professional grant writing and RFP experience in a nonprofit setting, including health and human services, workforce development and career services, homelessness, domestic violence, senior services, youth services, and mental health counseling/addiction treatment services.
