Job Description:

It is active in housing, health care, education, job training, childcare and economic development.

Within the framework of the New Community Corporation’s Early Learning Centers’ Program’s purpose and philosophy, the Family Worker is responsible for coordinating services for children and families in compliance with standards set by the school district. Within this dual position, the receptionist has the responsibility to assist in performing administrative/operational duties as necessary to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the program.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Establish a healthy positive relationships with parents and children, and serving as liaison between the Early Childhood Program and the home
  • Provide monthly parent support groups
  • Maintain regular contact with teachers and supervisor about child’s activities in the program
  • Complete Social Service Assessment to identify needs of program children and their families
  • Identify needs as expressed by the family, make appropriate referrals, complete necessary paperwork, and provide transportation, if available, and follow-up for assurance of services
  • Assist all families in enrolling in Kid Care/Family Care and utilizing existing coordinated services such as the Children’s System of Care
  • Coordinate and integrate support services for children and their parents
  • Prepare and distribute community resource list
  • Conduct post referral evaluation
  • Develop a working relationship with program staff on developing programs that promote healthy child development and increase parental involvement; establish, coordinate and support parent participation in program Parent Committee
  • Coordinate and support parent participation in program parent activities
  • Help provide information and training to parent volunteers
  • Provide case management services to families served by the program
  • Collect current information for application process including proof of residency, proof of income, immunization records and health forms, as required by DYFS Licensing requirements, prior to program admission
  • Creates "Level of Service" report effecting total enrollment
  • Documents/ tracks attendance of students on a weekly/ monthly basis

Experience and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in child care or social service setting working with children and families
  • Ability to work with many types of people in a professional and courteous manner, and to communicate clearly and positively
